Charcoal Face Scrub & Cleanser

If you haven’t heard by now about the magical wonder that is activated charcoal, let me give you a brief run down. It’s becoming more and more popular in everyday products from beauty to health. Activated charcoal helps to reduce cholesterol levels and minimize hangover ailments while also pulling out toxins from your skin and body. Another great part about this wonder product is it weighs barely anything and is incredibly cheap. Buying one ounce for $3 can really take you a ways.

My first experience with a charcoal beauty product was when my previous roomie brought home a sample from her work. She worked for the beauty product brand Origins. When I first used her Clear Improvements charcoal face mask I fell in love. However, I wasn’t in love with the price. At $25 for a 3.4 ounce bottle I started researching for a similar product I could make at a much more feasible cost.

Thus, my charcoal face scrub & cleanser was created. Tea Tree essential oil is used for it’s skin loving property while Olive oil assists in taking off make up. The scrub uses sugar which will give you a nice exfoliate without being too abrasive. It also includes Castile soap to work in some lather.

Things you’ll need:
4 oz Sugar
30 g Castile Soap
9 g Shea Butter
14 g Olive Oil
1 tsp Activated Charcoal
2 ml Tea Tree Essential Oil

Step One: In a heat safe container, measure out 9 grams Shea Butter and melt it down in the microwave.

Step Two: In a small mixing bowl, add your 30 grams Castile Soap, 14 grams Olive Oil, the melted shea butter, and 2 ml of Tea Tree Essential Oil. Then set to the side.

Step Three: In another container, measure out 4 oz of sugar and add in 1 teaspoon Activated Charcoal. Mix thoroughly making sure to scrap the bottom and edges.

Step Four: Slowly stir in the sugar mixture to the oil mixture until completely blended.

Wunderbar! This charcoal face scrub & cleanser is sure to leave you with glowing skin that’s just as radiant as you are!

Happy Crafting, blogosphere! Xo.

Good evening. I just made this and it looks and feels wonderful but was wondering about the scent of it. It’s not very pleasant to me. Can you recommend something I could put in it?

While Tea Tree may have many amazing benefits for skin, it’s definitely not as easy on the nose. My favorite pairings to mask some of it’s aroma are Lavender or any citrus scent.
